Body
Justice & Paix is a Belgian NGO and permanent education organization that raises awareness and challenges citizens, political leaders, and educational actors on issues of conflict, democracy, and the environment. [source: justice-et-paix] The organization advocates for human rights, social justice, and environmental protection, working toward a sustainable model accessible to all based on peace, justice, solidarity, and cooperation between peoples. [source: justice-et-paix] It was created in 1967 in response to the desire expressed by some 2,300 bishops gathered at the Second Vatican Council, when Pope Paul VI established the Pontifical Commission Justitia et Pax to encourage the Catholic community to promote development in poor regions. In 2025, Justice & Paix published a study on sobriety that questions our consumption model and the limits of growth in a society marked by hyperconsumerism. [source: justice-et-paix] Faced with climate and social challenges, the study presents sobriety as opening the way to other ways of producing, consuming, and building society. [source: justice-et-paix] The study is available in print at a free price and as a free download. [source: justice-et-paix]
The organization also addresses the displacement of extractivism toward new territories in the face of natural resource depletion, and explores the central role of art in how we collectively represent war and peace. [source: justice-et-paix] Justice & Paix organizes events such as a program from June 29 to July 2, 2026, on conflicts, natural resources, and colonial legacies, noting that international conflicts are an integral part of daily life.
